As a member of the Saint Joseph's College Computer Center staff, the Systems/Network Administrator fills a lead technical role, both as primary manager of the College's data network and as systems administrator for the College's shared computer servers and networked services. Represents Information Technology/Computing Services on the faculty Committee on the Use of Technology for Academic Programs (CUTAP). As a network manager, the Systems/Network Administrator supports and maintains the campus TCP/IP Local Area Network, and manages the College's Internet link(s). Systems Administrator responsibilities include configuring, monitoring, managing, and maintaining various computer servers on the Local Area Network to provide directory services, domain services, electronic mail, World Wide Web services, network file storage, printing, and various other campus-wide computer services.
Provides technical support to faculty, staff and student users of the SJC computer network, and assists faculty and staff to evaluate and select appropriate network and computer technologies to meet their administrative, teaching and research needs. Participates in the computer center's on-call rotation schedule.
Normal office working conditions. Works independently, under the general direction of the Director of Information Services. When assigned by the Director, may act as a Project Manager for specific systems projects. In this role, the Systems/Network Administrator may provide project direction, guidance, and leadership to other staff assigned to the Project Team. Will also serve as acting director in absence of director.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science with at least 5 years of hands on experience in Windows, Linux and Mac platforms are required. A master's degree and 10 years of experience are preferred.
Systems development and programming experience in a Linux, Apache, MySQL/PostgreSQL, PHP/Perl technology, Active Directory, SQL server environment are required. Experience with Linux/Unix systems administration and MS-Windows and CISCO experience are desirable. An understanding of VMWare server and/or desktop virtualization technologies are needed. A working knowledge of TCP/IP network administration and support, C, C++, PHP, Perl, and Linux shell scripting are required. Must have experience with at least four of the following: firewall configuration, IMAP, SMTP servers, DNS, Apache, FTP servers, NFS, MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, CUPS, Samba servers, SMB, LDAP and/or Active Directory, and domain networking. SAN and hardware knowledge are required.
Must have good communication skills, with a strong "service" orientation, and the ability to work both independently as well as part of a project team.
