The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) District 508, is the largest community college system in Illinois and one of the largest in the nation, with 5,800 faculty and staff serving 120,000 students at seven campuses and thirteen satellite sites city-wide. The City Colleges of Chicago is currently in the midst of a collaborative effort to review and revise CCC programs and practices to ensure students leave CCC college-ready, career-ready and prepared to pursue their life's goals.
CCC includes seven colleges: Richard J. Daley College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive-Harvey College, Harry S Truman College, Harold Washington College and Wilbur Wright College. The system also oversees: the Washburne Culinary Institute, the French Pastry School, two restaurants, five Child Development Centers, the Center for Distance learning, the Workforce Institute, the public broadcast station WYCC-TV Channel 20 and radio station WKKC-FM 89.3FM.
Duties
To provide instruction to students enrolled in the Adult Education Program at the City Colleges of Chicago in areas such as Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL).
Develops class syllabi and appropriate class materials and curriculum for class instruction. Takes attendance and monitors class enrollment. Evaluates student progress and extra instruction needs; refers student to tutoring as needed. Administers progress tests to students and assigns grades based on test results. Prepares reports to senior management regarding test scores, student participation and student progress.
Keeps abreast of state rules and regulations regarding Adult Education policies. Stays abreast of the pedagogy of teaching and adjusts teaching methods accordingly. Attends regular staff meetings with Adult Education Managers and Adult Education Coordinators to receive information regarding program policies and procedures. Assists with program registration. Participates in staff development programs as required.
You must demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
B.S., B.A. from a regionally accredited university/college in a discipline appropriate to instructional subject, preferably English, Mathematics, Reading, Elementary or Secondary Education, Social Science, Science, History, ABE/GED Education, and/or Education required. M.Ed., M.A., or M.S. from a regionally accredited university/college in Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching, Reading, Mathematics, Educational Policy, Literacy Studies, Adult Education, Secondary Education or Elementary Education preferred. International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider (e.g. E.C.E., W.E.S., etc.). Official transcript(s) reflect sufficient subject-relevant coursework to teach the assigned course.
Submit sample lesson plans, syllabi and/or teaching portfolio that reflect skills in area(s) of instruction, including computer literacy and adult learning practices. Knowledge of current adult education classroom assessment techniques. Completed satisfactory teaching demonstration for the hiring committee. Has coursework, certification, or significant experience in literacy instruction and special education. Has passed the GED practice examination and/or the K-12 certification examination for the subject area that they will be teaching.
Has completed or in the process of completing an Evidence-based Reading Program for Reading & General Studies AEs (i.e. STAR or Direct Instruction, etc.) with at least one of the following preferred:
- Verified significant instructional experience with adults or other discipline related experience
- 15 graduate hours or more in the discipline that they will be teaching
- Current enrollment in a subject appropriate, master's degree program at an accredited university/college.
