The Inside-Out Center is the international headquarters of The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, which trains college/university instructors to teach classes in prison with groups comprising of campus-based students and incarcerated students. The Associate Director for Research and Advancement will help to run the international program, in collaboration with the Director and other senior staff - and will step in, if necessary, in the absence of the Director. The Associate Director will oversee research, advisor relations, and program development, and will collaborate with other senior staff on public relations and branding of the overall program to generate awareness and interest internally and externally. Assists in the development of program policies and procedures. The incumbent will coordinate the Inside-Out Research Committee and support master's and doctoral candidates conducting research on the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program. S/he will maintain advisory relations by coordinating the Temple Advisory Board and the Inside-Out Steering Committee. These responsibilities will include the work of all fundraising initiatives for the international program, which the Associate Director for Research and Advancement will conduct. Responsibilities also include some staff supervision. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Master's degree and at least two years of directly related experience in educational and social justice programs. Must have experience in gathering and analyzing data/conducting quantitative or qualitative research. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have strong writing skills and the ability to guide scholars in conducting research on/writing about Inside-Out.
  • Must have demonstrated organizational astuteness as well as strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills with staff, students and interns.
  • Basic computer skills in database management, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must demonstrate commitment to issues of social justice and have the ability to articulate a persuasive case for the importance of social justice issues.
  • Strong commitment to collaborative teamwork and individual accountability and integrity.
  • Demonstrated skills with researching and writing grant proposals, and fundraising (donor appeals).
  • Demonstrated program and policy development skills.
Preferred:
  • Ph.D.
  • Certification in the Inside-Out facilitator training; Ph.D. (in humanities or social science).
  • Experience in higher education working in a related area.
