This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsEastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated professional to serve as Assistant Dean for Institutional Effectiveness, and to serve as Director of a new Master of Medical and Health Professions Education program. EVMS is an academic health center that enrolls approximately 1200 students in 13 graduate and first professional programs, trains 350 medical residents and fellows annually in numerous specialties, and has nearly 1800 salaried and volunteer community faculty members.
Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of the School of Health Professions, this newly created position will: (1) direct and teach in the master's program in medical and health professions education; (2) develop and implement an institutional effectiveness system in cooperation with offices across the institution; and (3) collaborate with Program Directors, faculty, and senior managers in the health professions to conduct periodic reviews of our diverse academic programs.
Institutional effectiveness encompasses functions pertaining to assessment and institutional research. Effectiveness studies are used to document institutional performance and to assist in complying with reports and other deliverables for key external organizations including the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, various Federal agency reports such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems, and self-studies required for program level accreditation.
The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in education, curriculum and instruction, assessment, research, or other field reasonably associated with knowledge and skills described in this position. Other key requirements include; minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a higher education setting, preferably to include effective oversight of the development and use of large data sets; minimum 5 years of teaching experience at a college, university, or academic health center; strong analytical skills, including knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research; knowledge of institutional and program-level accreditation processes; knowledge of federal and state higher education policies, issues, regulations and trends; demonstrated experience in proactively utilizing data and research to identify and make recommendations on institutional issues; ability to manage complex projects and accomplish goals within a specified budget and time frame; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to shape complex information into presentations that are understandable to diverse audiences; ability to work effectively in teams, and relate effectively with internal and external constituencies at all levels.
