POSITION DESCRIPTION:

1. JOB PURPOSE

Develop Innovative Agriculture and Natural Resource programs for use in public school students (grades K thru 12) in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. The on-going Research and Extension programs at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center will be used as educational resources to stimulate students' interest in seeking careers in agriculture, natural resources, and biological sciences.   

2. JOB FUNCTIONS

YOUTH PROGRAMS
Develop innovative introductory youth programs that familiarize and build an appreciation for food production and environmental stewardship focusing on K thru 5 for use by elementary school teachers to stimulate interest in the natural resources sector, engage parents and develop mentors for children in K thru 5 while fostering a sense of ownership of the introductory projects.  The Outdoor Trail and forests of the Pee Dee REC will be incorporated into this education initiative as a resource for the schools  E/25%

AGRICULTURE PROGRAMMING FOR GRADES 6 - 12
Develop programming focused on the production aspects of agriculture and natural resources and the interface with the surrounding environment for use in grades 6 thru 12.  This will include plant development/physiology, integrated pest management, fertility, harvest and applications of precision agriculture while monitoring impacts on eco-system interactions  E/25%

IN-FIELD LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS & TEACHERS
Provide hands on in-field learning experiences for students and teachers that integrates STEM curriculum and new academic teaching standards utilizing the plant and environmental resources at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center and introduce students and teachers to new technology applications and research programs on-going at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center  E/25%

ADULT PROGRAMMING IN AG/NAT RESOURCES
Develop programming at the Pee Dee REC in agriculture and natural resources for adults to improve their knowledge of where their food comes from, the need for continuous research to allow our producers to be productive and competitive and the important role that the PDREC plays in everyone's life  E/25%
QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree in agriculture related field; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form to K-12 students, teachers, and adults; demonstrated ability to develop field-based agricultural demonstrations
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5;  Salary commensurate with education, training, and experience.
BENEFITS INFORMATION:

Employees who are in time limited positions will earn one and one-quarter days of Annual and Sick Leave per month for a total of thirty (30) days per year. Eligible part-timers will earn days on a pro rata basis.
