Christian Brothers University

Christian Brothers University (CBU) is a four-year, private university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. It is renowned and respected for its distinctive, vibrant, and vigorous educational programs. Regularly rated one of the best universities in the South, CBU traces its roots to a 17th-century educational innovator, Saint John Baptist de La Salle. CBU was founded in 1871 by members of the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools, a Roman Catholic religious teaching congregation. While strongly rooted in the 21st century, education at CBU honors those Lasallian traditions -- especially in the focus on faith, service, and community.

Located on a 75-acre wooded campus in the center Memphis, CBU is home to more than 1700 students who come from 29 states and 18 countries. While CBU is a Catholic university, 28 different faiths are represented in the student body (23% are Catholic). This small, friendly, and remarkably diverse campus helps students develop ethical values even as it prepares them to step up, stand out, and lead in professional careers.

Excellence in teaching and individualized attention is the hallmark of CBU. It prepares students for professional careers and advanced study in the arts, sciences, engineering, business, and teacher education and for lives of moral responsibility and constructive community involvement. The academic program offers 31 undergraduate majors leading to a B.A., B.S. or B.F.A. degree. On the graduate level, seven master's degrees are offered in the fields of business administration, Catholic studies, education, and engineering management.
