Responsibilities: Teach applied trombone and other classes commensurate with departmental needs and individual expertise. Involvement in recruitment and community outreach.

Qualifications: Artist/Teacher of trombone. Preferred experience in music history, theory, and/or music education. Higher education and secondary teaching experience preferred. Masters degree required, doctorate preferred. Doctorate required for assistant professor rank and for tenure consideration at any rank.

Appointment: Nine-month, tenure track appointment commencing August 1, 2011.

Rank and Salary: Rank and salary commensurate with experience.

The University: The University of Tennessee at Martin is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System. The campus is located in Northwest Tennessee approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. The University of Tennessee at Martin has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 students. The emphasis is solidly on excellence in teaching, applied research, and outreach. We seek candidates who demonstrate a similar commitment. The College of Humanities and Fine Arts is currently underway with a two-phase, $20 million building construction and renovation with expected completion in 2012 that will house the Music and Visual/Theater Arts Departments.

The Department: The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. A key component of the Department's mission is a commitment to music education. It has approximately 110 majors with 14 full-time faculty members and three staff members. Degrees offered are the Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Performance, or Pedagogy and the Bachelor of Arts in Music.
