The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an administrative head who is a dynamic leader committed to working with the faculty to advance the department's mission and strategic initiatives. Chair candidates must have outstanding organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, academics and service. The preferred candidate should have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and should be tenurable at the rank of Professor.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has 420 undergraduate and 90 graduate students, and 14 faculty, with ongoing research in nanomechanics, nanomaterials and polymer composites; microfluidics; biomechanics; computational fluid dynamics; renewable and sustainable energy; systems reliability; and automotive engineering. Local industrial research collaborators include General Electric, Ford, Cummins, LexMark, UPS, and Brown Forman. The University of Louisville Health Sciences Campus including Medical and Dental Schools also offers many collaborative research opportunities.
