This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsThe Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) invites applications from innovative leaders to serve as the Vice President for Research. The mission of the USUHS is to provide the highest quality education and research programs in the health sciences to those selected individuals who demonstrate dedication to a career in the health professions of the uniformed services. The USUHS is authorized to grant appropriate advanced academic degrees and to establish postdoctoral, postgraduate, and technological institutes related to treatment and research in the health sciences. Its programs in continuing education are established to maintain the highest standards of health care within the medical departments of the military, the Public Health Service, and other Federal agencies. The USUHS develops and supports academic and training programs designed to ensure maximum utilization of the health science labor force, facilities, and equipment within the Department of Defense and military medical departments worldwide.
The Vice President for Research reports to the President and is responsible for developing, establishing, and directing a coordinated, creative, and progressive program for maximizing research efforts at USUHS. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of: the intramural awards program; the extramural funding office; the Laboratory and Animal Medicine facility; the regulatory compliance offices; the Biomedical Instrumentation Center; the scientific management office; the Tri-Service Nursing Research Program; and the Center of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine. In addition, the Vice President for Research facilitates research and training support for the various components of USUHS by promoting efforts to secure extramural funding and by fostering an environment in which all forms of scholarly activity are encouraged. The incumbent is also responsible for regulatory compliance and must be knowledgeable of the appropriate Federal, DoD, and other regulations and policies relating to research compliance to include those on human subjects.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a minimum of an earned doctoral degree (M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree) and extensive experience in research with a record of successful extramural funding and/or an excellent record of facilitating grant support for faculty elsewhere. Expertise in research is demonstrated by previous success in acquiring extramural funding and a substantial body of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Salary commensurate with experience.
