The mission of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is to provide the highest quality education and research programs in the health sciences to those selected individuals who demonstrate dedication to a career in the health professions of the uniformed services. The USU is authorized to grant appropriate advanced academic degrees and to establish postdoctoral, postgraduate, and technological institutes related to treatment and research in the health sciences. USUHS develops and supports academic and training programs designed to ensure maximum utilization of the health science labor force, facilities, and equipment within the Department of Defense and military medical departments worldwide.

This position is located in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor, (Non-Tenure-Tenured Track) position. The Department of Psychiatry is comprised of twenty full-time faculty and has active research interests in PTSD, disaster psychiatry, mental health services in primary care, neurobiological and behavioral aspects of stress response and substance abuse.

Duties: Plan and develop curriculum for the department. Supervise groups of medical student, interns, residents and postdoctoral graduate assistants at the tutorial level in the laboratory. Responsible for teaching new research techniques, the use of appropriate instruments and equipment, statistical and analytical procedures. Performs patient care including all appropriate technical procedures, and supervises all patient care services performed by staff and students. He/she will participant in investigational research and development projects. Directs experimental activities, and draws conclusions. Serves as a research advisor to graduate students in the field of expertise.

Qualifications: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a M.D. degree,and have completed an approved psychiatric residency and be board certified. In addition, the individuals must have experience in medical school teaching, education administration, personnel management, research and development, expertise as reflected by scientific publication in critically reviewed scientific journals appropriate to his/her research. Possess active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the Department of psychiatry and experience in seeking extramurally funded research grants. Experience with medical applications of electronic data processing is desirable. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic policies.

The position sensitivity is designated as non-critical sensitive. The incumbent must ab able to obtain and maintain the non-critical sensitivity level. Nominees for this position shall be required to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
