The Department of Reading is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a tenure-track position in Reading. The department provides study in literacy teaching and learning, with an emphasis on connecting practice and theory, from preschool through adult years. Programs are offered at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in reading education in both face-to-face and blended/hybrid online environments, supervising related practicum experiences and graduate student research, conducting an active research agenda, and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Actively work with the teachings and implementation of Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura

Qualifications for Assistant Professor

  • Have a doctoral degree in a literacy or related area.
  • Have three years public/ private school teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate evidence of leadership, showing exceptional competence in working with colleagues and teachers.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Show evidence of research, documented peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Have experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the structures of schools and systems.
  • Be bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Have successfully completed or be willing to complete trainer training for Reading Recovery & Descubriendo la Lectura
  • Commitment to apply and be employed with the university training site for at least 3 years following training.
  • Successful university teaching experience
  • Commitment to practice based literacy teacher education preparation
  • Commitment to developing collaborative relationships with communities
