The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries seeks an innovative, collaborative, user-focused applicant for a Health and Life Sciences Liaison Librarian.

This position is located within the Libraries' Division of Research and Education. In support of the University Libraries' mission and shared values, the Research and Education Division fosters collaborations that contribute to our users' academic success, research, and lifelong learning. The Division positively impacts student learning and supports the research and scholarly agenda of the University. This mission is realized through:
  • instruction of learners using a variety of methods and tools,
  • partnerships with faculty to create an integrated, assessable, information literacy-focused curriculum,
  • provision of targeted information resources,
  • expert, point-of need research assistance, and
  • a commitment to fostering competencies for lifelong inquiry.
UNLV is a comprehensive research university of approximately 27,000 students and 2,800 faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, research, and service. The university has internationally recognized programs in hotel administration and creative writing; professional degrees in law, architecture, and dental medicine; and leading programs in fine arts, sciences and education. The successful candidate for this position will be designated liaison responsibilities for the School of Life Sciences, within the College of Sciences, and all units within the Division of Health Sciences: School of Allied Health Sciences, School of Dental Medicine (located at the Shadow Lane campus), School of Nursing, and School of Community Health Sciences. Reporting to the Director of Research and Education, responsibilities include: teaching curriculum-integrated instructional sessions at all degree levels; collaborating with teaching faculty to develop course content; participating in assessing student learning; providing discipline-based research and technology assistance through individual and small group consultations and online user support; creating programs and services for UNLV's health and life sciences community that will advance the research enterprise and foster a climate of scholarly inquiry and student achievement; creating online tools and user guides; helping to shape new directions for development and access to health and life sciences collections; and working in a team environment with a focus on continuously enhancing the user experience. As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively with others; engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure.

Liaison librarians proactively develop partnerships with faculty to develop and deliver value-added services as well as new methods of delivering existing services to support the University's research and teaching initiatives. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude, and he or she will have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels as well as with faculty and students.

Required: A master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association. Relevant undergraduate degree or course work, course work in medical librarianship, or significant discipline-specific experience in an academic, health sciences, or medical library. Familiarity with information literacy theory, practice, and assessment. Knowledge of emerging information technologies and their application to research and teaching. Demonstrated success in a collaborative environment. Evidence of energy, creativity, initiative and commitment to professional growth. Excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to prioritize workload assignments.

Preferred: Academic library experience with research assistance and information literacy instruction. Teaching experience or experience in instructional design in a higher education, library, or secondary education setting. Experience working with teaching faculty to integrate evidence-based practice and/or information literacy skills into the curriculum. Experience in developing working partnerships with academic departments and other campus communities. Understanding of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing and communication. Demonstrated experience with project management.

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II (equivalent to an Assistant Professor). Salaries are competitive and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding
