ROLE of the POSITION
The External Relations Manager will report to the Director of Development, and will be located within the Libraries Administrations Office. The incumbent will advance the mission and vision of the UNLV Libraries in the external community, by managing the external communications message in print, media, and online formats. S/He will collaborate with colleagues to disseminate information about the Libraries and its mission, activities, expertise and resources to the external community. The incumbent will develop and implement communication programs for the Libraries, including: external newsletters, notices and press releases, and marketing and design for external events collateral materials. The incumbent will provide marketing and design support for advancement efforts such as: development case statement, Libraries overview and case statement, program case statements, proposals, development web pages, targeted appeals, and annual appeals. The UNLV Libraries foster a collaborative spirit, and the incumbent will collaborate with university media relations as well as external media representatives and campus vendors to market library events, activities and projects. S/He will be a self-starter, who is able to manage multiple projects and prioritize issues under deadline.
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred; with two or more years of related professional experience. Excellent writing skills required.
Technical Skills: Experience with publication design and the printing / dissemination process.
Strong Computer skills, including the ability to use standard desktop software programs, including those for basic design. Strong understanding of publication design and the printing process.
Functional Skills: Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to
work on multiple projects simultaneously. Some knowledge or experience with development work or alumni relations preferred. Ability to understand the operation, function and culture of higher education
Ability to develop and cultivate strong and collaborative relationships within the library, the University, and community at large. Ability to gather, understand and interpret information, and attention to detail.
Ability to identify opportunities which support organizational initiatives
This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative faculty position at range 3. Salaries are competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market
