JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform original as well as complex copy cataloging of material in all formats as a member of the Collections and Technical Services Team. Serve as head of the cataloging department; develop and maintain policies and procedures manual; prepare appropriate reports; serve on the library dean's department heads' council; train and supervise all cataloging staff and student assistants; serve as library liaison to assigned academic departments; serve as the library's representative to the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Cataloging Committee; Head of Cataloging is expected to develop expertise with emerging technologies and lead and participate in innovative library projects; serve as an on- call member of the reference staff assisting students with in-person and telephone reference service; assist in creation of the libraries' instruction and services materials; participate in library and university governance as a member of the library faculty.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited institution and 3 years of experience as a Librarian in an university library. Must have prior experience: Supervisory experience in a university library; Creating both original and copy cataloging data for monographs, audio visual, thesis, serials and digital resources using cataloging standards, including AACR2, MARC21, LC Rule Interpretations, LC Subject Headings and Classification, and authority control standards; Using OCLC Connexion as a bibliographic utility for entering records into the online catalog; Troubleshooting computer applications; Conducting information literacy instructional sessions; Providing technical support for classroom computers to faculty and students; Participating in outreach services to university community by creating and publishing handouts and conducting library tours; and Providing current awareness services to the university community.
