IT Support Associate/Client Support Specialist I
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and IT Services invite applications for a Client Support Specialist I. This position provides direct support for computer solutions to customer service problems, as well as the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the computer hardware and software. This includes providing hardware, software and networking training and support. The objective is to provide timely and effective computing solutions to customers. This position also works as part of the team that refreshes leased computers on campus during the lease cycle. This individual provides direct support for computer solutions in computer labs and classrooms. This includes installation, configuration and maintenance of the computers. The Client Support Specialist I may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department's mission and goals.
1. Any combination totaling one year from the following categories:
a) progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
b) college course work in Information Technology (IT) or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one year
2. Additional experience desired by the hiring department:
a) one to three years of experience installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
b) one to three years of working knowledge of application programming, and programming theory and practice.
c) one to three years of experience troubleshooting computer networking technology, servers, services and related protocols such as NETBIOS, IPX/SPX, and TCP/IP.
d) one to three years of working knowledge of multiple platform such as DOS, MS-Windows, MAC, OS/2, UNIX, etc.
e) Desktop Support Technician certification (preferred).
Personal attributes needed:
Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills; general business skills such as project management, the ability to design training programs, to teach job skills, maintain a physical inventory, work independently, and interact with clients; the ability to communicate effectively with other computer support staff as well as the customer, especially the ability to communicate complex technical concepts at a level appropriate to the client's level of computer knowledge.
Starting salary range: $3,170 per month
