ROLE of the POSITION
This position is funded by a DOE contract to design and conduct independent experimental research on materials under high pressures and temperatures as part of the program of the High Pressure Science and Engineering Center. The employee is expected to conceive and do original research, and to publish regularly in refereed professional journals. The employee will be expected to conduct research in laser spectroscopy, x-ray and neutron diffractions, high P-T materials synthesis, crystal structure analysis, equation of state, constitutive property, acoustic elasticity, phase transformation, and reaction kinetics of novel compounds, energetic materials, metals, ceramics, and minerals of interest.
This position requires a Doctorate in Physical Science from a regionally accredited college or university and 1-3 years of related professional experience. Other requirements include a thorough understanding of condensed matter science (chemistry, physics, materials science, or mineral physics), x-ray/neutron diffraction and scattering, including automatic collection of diffraction and scattering data, diamond-anvil cell methods, large volume press, shock recovery, and beam line operations at synchrotron light sources including state-of-the-art developments; good analytical, computational, and experimental or theoretical skills; good communication and team work skills.
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
