Providing assistance to research faculty in conducting transportation research. Duties include: (i) traveling to off-site locations to manage data collection, data downloads, and ensuring data quality, (ii) installing and trouble-shooting (i.e., repairing, servicing, adjusting, calibrating, fine-tuning, and testing) data collection systems, (iii) supervising, coordinating, and training junior experimental staff, (iv) recruiting, screening, and working with human subjects, (v) independently, with little supervision, performs most assignments with instructions on global objectives and general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. Excellent communication skills. Positive attitude and attendance required.
Performing other duties in support of conducting research projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, electrical engineering or related field(s) and/or the equivalent level of experience and training.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of hand tools, powered hand tools, soldering equipment, multimeter, vehicle diagnostic devices, and basic vehicle wiring.
- Demonstrated ability to install and trouble-shoot electronic equipment in a variety of motor vehicles.
- Computer proficiency specifically Microsoft office applications.
- Must be trained and certified in the Protection of Human Subjects as prescribed by Virginia Tech's Institutional Review Board.
