Position Description:

The Public Information Officer will conduct communication and public relation functions for the ND Agricultural Experiment Station (NDAES) and the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR).

Key responsibilities of this position are:

Website Maintenance

  • Maintain and update the NDAES website in coordination with the administrative assistant to the Associate Director of the NDAES
  • Maintain and update the CAFSNR website in coordination with the Director of College Advancement
  • Maintain and update the Vice President for Agricultural Affairs website and the State Board of Agricultural Research and Education (SBARE) website in coordination with the Office of the Vice President, Dean and Director for Agricultural Affairs
  • Maintain and update the Ag Budget Office website in coordination with the Ag Budget Director

Social Media

  • Maintain and update social media sites for NDAES and CAFSNR

Written Communication

  • Collect relevant information; write articles and press releases for NDAES and SBARE
  • Coordinate and prepare promotional materials and specialized presentations for NDAES and SBARE
  • Assist NDSU Agriculture Communication Department with publication of Annual Highlights


  • Provide leadership of agriculture-based photo gallery for NDAES and CAFSNR to include taking photos, maintaining collection, and coordinating usage for written and electronic communication/promotion

Other duties

  • Serve as a resource person to CAFSNR departments/schools and NDAES Research and Extension Centers with regard to written and electronic communication
  • Assist with coordination of public relation events and tours
  • Work cooperatively with staff in the Office of the Vice President, Dean and Director for Agricultural Affairs, and liaise with relevant areas of the university and external agencies
  • Serve as a backup to the administrative assistant to the Associate Director of the NDAES to attend SBARE meetings and record proceedings/minutes.
  • Assist with other public relation and marketing activities as directed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Agricultural Communication from an accredited institution
  • Understanding of animal/plant agriculture in the Northern Plains
  • Evidence of extracurricular agriculture related activities
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Proven effective organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently, and exercise initiative
  • Experience with CMS (Content Management System) web development and social media

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a university setting
  • Evidence of understanding the activities of NDAES
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality photography
