Reporting to the Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), the Assistant Director manages all scholar activities and services which includes the research for and development and implementation of scholar policies and procedures for UNLV international faculty, staff and their respective hiring departments in collaboration with OISS staff. The incumbent provides necessary documentation and guidance on policy matters to administration and advises international scholars on government regulations; serves as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the university J-1 program; and determines appropriate referrals and maintains communication with international scholars.

The Assistant Director also processes scholar visa requests and coordinates permanent residency petitions with an outside attorney; facilitates efficient employment-based permanent residency procedures for the international faculty; and guides outside counsel on the required procedures for employment-based permanent residency applications.

The Assistant Director oversees the client services functions for the Office of International Students & Scholars including the supervision of front-line staff and student assistants. The Assistant Director also leads special projects for OISS and is the next point of contact in the Director's absence pertaining to international student and scholar requests. The incumbent may also be asked to assist with F1 student advising, issues or to serve as a resource to the F1 advising staff.

This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; two to three years of supervisory experience and a minimum of three years of full-time experience advising J-1, H-1B, TN and F-1 OPT visa categories at an institution of higher education, a research institution or a comparable setting with similar non-immigrant foreign national populations. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; in-depth experience with each visa category listed above; having served as a RO/ARO, DSO; experience in filing H-1B petitions; and knowledge of employment-based permanent residency issues.

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
