This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsBrief Description of Duties: The Division of Nursing is an integral program in the School of Health Sciences. The purpose of the Division of Nursing at WSSU is it provides a curriculum that prepares generalists in the practice of nursing at the undergraduate level and advanced practice nurses at the graduate level. The curriculum extends to men and women from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree and Masters Degree in nursing. The Division of Nursing also provides experiences needed for effective communication and critical thinking while executing therapeutic nursing interventions. These experiences include theory and clinical practicums needed for mastering the knowledge and skills essential for professional delivery of nursing care in a variety of settings and to multi-cultural populations. Flexible options are considered in terms of criteria for admission, prior learning activities, and teaching-learning experiences. Generic, RN-BSN, and Accelerated options; and graduate programs are provided in the curriculum. The Division of Nursing provides an environment conducive to personal and professional growth and lifelong learning for students and faculty.
General responsibilities include coordination of learning activities, development of course content and assisting students in teaching/learning activities related to adult health nursing, including theory and practicum. Specific responsibilities include: Teaching in the baccalaureate program in the Division of Nursing; participating in program planning and curriculum development, academic advisement and counseling of students; helping to create a student-centered environment, developing new and innovative teaching methods; participating in department, division and university activities; performing other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean or Area Director.
Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications): Education: Earned Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Nursing is required. Preference given to candidates who possess an earned Doctorate in Nursing or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Minimum of two years teaching in a nursing program and two years prior employment in direct patient care is required. Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina is required (or ability to obtain licensure).
Scholarly Production: Participation in scholarly work, e.g. research and publications as appropriate for rank. Involvement in professional organizations.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina is required (or ability to obtain licensure).
