ROLE of the POSITION
The School of Architecture in the College of Fine Arts at UNLV invites applicants for Assistant Professor Digital Support Specialist in Architectural Technology. This full-time, 9 month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position beginning in the fall semester of 2013. The School of Architecture (SOA) offers professionally accredited degrees in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Planning, and Interior Architecture.
Position responsibilities will include a combination of: courses, workshops, and studio support for both foundation level and advanced design softwares and their applications including digital fabrication associated with the three disciplines within the SoA. Courses may be taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the position may include coordination of the SoA technology software utilization and acquisitions, oversight of student workers and technical research/recommendations for related acquisitions and advances in the computational design and fabrication capabilities of the program. Further, the position may include coordination of the SoA Laboratory for Physical and Computational Simulation (SimLab) operations and acquisitions. This responsibility would include oversight of SimLab student workers and technical research/recommendations for related acquisitions and advances in the SimLab. Where applicable for the role of SimLab coordination, demonstrated experience with safe operations of manual wood shop and metals shop environments would be a positive attribute.
Required Qualifications: Applicant must hold professional Master 's of Architecture degree from a regionally accredited college or university or an equivalent Master's degree in related fields of Industrial Design, Environmental Design, Interior Design, Landscape, etc. from a regionally accredited college or university by January 1, 2013. In addition to teaching experience, the selected candidate must demonstrate exemplary related computational design and fabrication abilities, supported by compelling design research and an ability to disseminate his/her creative work/design in appropriate venues.
Desired Qualifications: Applicant should demonstrate accomplishment in use and software interface with a wide range of digital equipment. Applicant's creative work in digital applications for energy performance and sustainability as well as digital fabrication, script writing or robotics are considered positive attributes. Creative work may include any of the three disciplines within the SoA and related activities of digital applications in industrial design, product design, furniture making, site-specific installations, and exhibitions.
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
