This is an open recruitment for a development officer at the level of Assistant Director, Associate Director or Director. The major function of this position is to solicit gifts of $10,000 or more in support of the University's programs and/or projects. The level of the development officer will depend on the experience of the individual selected and specific goals will be assigned based on the agreed upon level. Development officers report to the Executive Director of Development and indirectly to the Dean of the specific school, college or unit.
The successful candidate will work with the dean and faculty of the college to create giving opportunities for donors, produce development proposals, and provide stewardship to past donors. He/she will also work with the Development and Alumni Relations program to assist in its solicitations and will have the development responsibility for fundraising events and the cultivation and solicitation of the advisory board for the college. In addition, the development officer will work with the Alumni Association to build alumni interest at the University.
Current Opening-Director of Development (1 position) - The College of Business (COB) at the University is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to be hired as a Director of Development. As the premier provider of business education in the region, the College prepares students to become competitive, ethical and innovative business professionals in order to drive economic development and improve quality of life for all citizens of the state of Nevada. Students prepare for careers in the fields of accounting, economics, information systems, finance, business management, international business and gambling and commercial gaming. Established in 1956 with 232 business students enrolled in 6 degree programs, the College has grown to over 2,700 students in 8 undergraduate majors, 5 masters programs, 1 PhD program and a new online Executive MBA program. The College is one of only 178 colleges of business worldwide that has earned the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for both Accounting and Business. Recently, the College's part-time MBA program was ranked fourth in the nation by Bloomberg Business Week; The Princeton Review, for the fourth consecutive year, recognized the College in its Best Business Schools guidebook; and for the first time ever, the College was ranked in the category of "best undergraduate business programs" in U.S. News and World Report. Because of the sensitivity of the information and data, the individual must adhere strictly to the highest professional ethics, confidentiality, discretion and judgment. This position offers the opportunity to work independently in an evolving and changing fundraising environment and combines a high level of initiative, creativity, and collaboration with widespread public interaction. Requires evening and weekend work as well as a willingness to travel.
Assistant - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and two years or a Master's Degree and one year of related professional experience
Associate - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and four years or a Master's Degree and two years of related professional experience
Director - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and five years or a Master's Degree and three years of related professional experience
Individuals with experience in higher education and fundraising are preferred, but those with a non-profit background or with organizations that require experience in developing relationships with clients or customers will be considered.
Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision.
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising, preferably in a university setting.
Experience with development software.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
