The Department of University Housing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and dynamic student affairs professional to join the University Housing team as the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards. This is a brand new position.
The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards (ADCS) is responsible for administering a comprehensive Housing-wide student conduct program. The ADCS assists in the development of policies and procedures, maintains conduct records, conducts hearings, and provides indirect supervision to Residence Life staff in their role as conduct hearing officer. The ADCS develops and implements educational programs and training events for the Housing community educating them on community standards, civility and the conduct process. The ADCS assists in the development and administration of departmental assessment initiatives and reporting, including gathering data and statistics. The ADCS mentors and counsels students on issues related to academic, social, and personal success. The ADCS makes student referrals to relevant University departments and outside agencies when appropriate. This is a live-off position with no on-call/duty responsibilities. The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards reports to the Associate Director for Residence Life who reports to the Director of University Housing who reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field; Three years, post-master's experience working with student housing and experience with student conduct; Supervisory ability; Strong working knowledge of student development theory, student learning theory; Knowledge of due process requirements and federal and state laws impacting student conduct policies and procedures; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent administrative and organizational skills; Ability to interact with and counsel effectively students, staff, and parents; And ability to make appropriate decisions quickly and independently
The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards is a live-off position. The starting salary is set at $45,005 per year with a Master's Degree. Additional compensation includes professional development dollars and State of Illinois health/retirement benefits. The preferred start date is June 14, 2013.
