POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director

PERSONNEL STATUS: Exempt, Full time, Regular

DEPARTMENT: Division of Information Technology (DoIT)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will manage both the desktop support and AV services groups. This includes day-to-day management as well as technical oversight, project coordination, and strategic planning. Desktop support is responsible for all faculty and staff computer support on campus, in addition to all centrally managed lab computers. AV services is responsible for all centrally managed audio/visual services and hardware including mobile carts and lecture halls, as well as one-off solutions that support faculty and staff needs. Specific duties include: working in a self-directed manner; identifying tasks and projects that should be accomplished in order to maintain or enhance services; working with others (OIT and other University staff) to have projects accomplished under minimal direct supervision; providing instruction to other staff members; supervising both student and professional staff; resolving customer tickets in a timely manner with appropriate communication and follow through which frequently requires independent judgment; and performing other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field and three years of supervisory experience of technical staff. Hands-on experience with server and desktop hardware, as well as audio visual equipment is required. Must have experience in user support of complex, heterogeneous, networked environments with mission critical services; significant technical experience in desktop and audio visual architecture/structure; demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision; and the ability to set priorities and handle multiple/concurrent tasks, as well as meet project deliverable dates. Must be able to diagnose programs and implement solutions quickly and possess excellent organizational and communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills.
Note: Position may require on call, after hours support and requires a cell phone be carried for emergency contact purposes. The incumbent must also be able to handle the physical challenges of the position, including extended periods of time working at a computer; lifting; moving; installing systems; and performing hardware maintenance tasks.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience
