The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) District 508, is the largest community college system in Illinois and one of the largest in the nation, with 5,800 faculty and staff serving 120,000 students at seven campuses and thirteen satellite sites city-wide. The City Colleges of Chicago is currently in the midst of a collaborative effort to review and revise CCC programs and practices to ensure students leave CCC college-ready, career-ready and prepared to pursue their life's goals.
CCC includes seven colleges: Richard J. Daley College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive-Harvey College, Harry S Truman College, Harold Washington College and Wilbur Wright College. The system also oversees: the Washburne Culinary Institute, the French Pastry School, two restaurants, five Child Development Centers, the Center for Distance learning, the Workforce Institute, the public broadcast station WYCC-TV Channel 20 and radio station WKKC-FM 89.3FM.
Responsible for managing and administering enterprise IT applications and services in a 24x7 production environment.
Administers, manages and supports the District's information technology applications and services such as, but not limited to, Identity Management, Zenworks, enterprise email, DNS/DHCP services, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), CA ARCserve, and other associated applications and services. Performs daily system monitoring verifying the integrity and availability of all systems and key processes, verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups to include administering and managing Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory.
Plans, coordinates, implement, and monitors network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware. Participates in disaster recovery and business continuity planning - including assisting with fault tolerance and contributing to the design of disaster recovery plans. Provides support to Networking and Application teams with server provisioning, tuning and troubleshooting. Follows and updates Change Management and Version Control procedures. Works with other OIT groups and other CCC teams to resolve technical issues. Documents and reports status on upgrade related tasks and maintain error logs and other technical documentation related to system administration support.
Performs other duties as assigned.
All CCC employees are required to adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
Minimum requirements for this position are a bachelor's degree and at least three years experience in IT System Administration or equivalent technical training and equivalent years of experience in IT System Administration.
This position requires strong systems administration, maintenance and troubleshooting experience in a dynamic Infrastructure environment to include experience with Novell eDirectory, IDM, Suse Linux, Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, Email Archiving. Remedy OnDemand, Storage Area Network and Backup technology experience a plus.
Must be self-directed and able to prioritize work. Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner. In addition, must be able to participate and interact as a team player on many projects throughout the District. Must be able to work some varied hours including late afternoons, nights, weekends or holidays during scheduled maintenance windows or emergencies and be accessible by via cell phone 24/7 for technical emergency calls.
