The Department of Human Services at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a fixed-term 9-month position as Assistant Professor of Educational Research beginning August 1, 2013.

WCU is a regional comprehensive university located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. One of 16 institutions of the University of North Carolina, WCU enrolls approximately 9000 students, including 1800+ graduate students. The department resides in the College of Education and Allied Professions, which received the national Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education Award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in 2007. The institution has adopted the Boyer model of scholarship as a means of supporting its commitment to the stewards of place model and integrated learning. As such, faculty are expected to utilize the scholarship of engagement to enhance student learning. Faculty participate in regional engagement and support the University's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Responsibilities: Teach master's and doctoral level courses in educational research methods (e.g. action research; research methods; program evaluation; educational testing and assessment; qualitative research; statistics), using online, face-to-face, and hybrid delivery instruction methods; collaborate with program directors and faculty on curricular development, research and student support.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:
Minimum Requirements: We seek candidates with an earned doctorate by August 15 from an accredited university in Research Methods, Measurement, Evaluation, Assessment or related field. Minimum qualifications also include evidence of potential to teach research and assessment courses designed to serve multiple graduate programs (e.g., M.A.T, M.A.Ed., M.A.T., M.Ed., M.S., and Executive Ed.D.), to mentor graduate students at all levels, and to provide service to the university and the professional community.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Requirements: Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following: previous teaching experience in higher education; experience with online, face-to-face, and hybrid delivery instruction methods; demonstrated competence in more than one area of research (quantitative, qualitative, mixed method, action research, evaluation, assessment, measurement, or statistics). Also, a preferred candidate would have expertise in one of or more of the following curricular areas: BK-12 teacher leadership, principal and/or superintendent preparation, or community college leadership.
