The Institutional Research Analyst, under the supervision of the Associate Provost, Institutional Research, will support the coordination, design, extraction, compilation, analysis and reporting of institutional data on students, instructional offerings, program outcomes, institutional effectiveness, academic program employee demographics, and other aspects of the Alliant internal or external environment as requested. The incumbent will also provide support for the development of relevant data including visual data displays for institutional decision making and work as part of a cross-University team to develop more automated ways of providing needed data to University constituents.

The incumbent must possess a high level of professionalism in both demeanor and conduct, with the proven ability to work independently and interact effectively with internal and external constituencies regarding institutional research needs, program outcomes, data for accreditation reports, and other related data issues. The incumbent must also exercise the utmost discretion in insuring the confidentiality of sensitive data and information pertaining to the duties and responsibilities of the position.

1. Develops and maintains database queries, troubleshoots and manipulates data, and fulfills recurring and ad-hoc data requests for internal and external reporting requirements including program reviews

2. Develops, improves, and assists with the automation of current data gathering and reporting systems in conjunction with functional area experts, data team members, administrators, and others

3. Designs and conducts analytical studies in conjunction with the Associate Provost

4. Prepares interpretive analyses and presenting findings though complete narrative reports as well as tabular and graphic data displays

5. Works across locations and departments (e.g., research analysts or related personnel hired by the Schools and/or campus staff) and administrators in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position and assists researchers in the Schools as needed

6. Assists programs as necessary on assessment, including developing assessment measure, and developing systems for tracking and collecting data

7. Reviews data for integrity, assists with data warehousing processes and archives data to meet accreditation data requirements

8. Develops online surveys using Alliant online survey tool (Qualtrics) and assists other to use the program for their survey needs

9. Extracts and prepares course evaluation data (Class Climate system)

10. Supports the development of educational effectiveness materials, systems, and processes, including posters for conferences

11. Other duties as required and assigned by the Associate Provost, Institutional Research


Education: B.A. or B.S. Social Sciences, including coursework in statistics and research methods; master's degree preferred.

Professional Designation: Professional/Technical Support

Experience: Minimum three year's prior experience in designing and conducting research, including data extraction and analysis or statistical work in the collection, compilation, and analysis of data. Higher educational institutional research experience strongly preferred.

Management Skills: Effective written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, detail-orientation, ability to effectively manage multiple assignments using various data sources. Ability to prepare reports that communicate analyses and research findings in an effective manner. General knowledge of the requirements to adhere to Federal, State and University policies regarding access to, use of, and release of confidential information (FERPA). Effective staff liaison skills to include proven ability to interact effectively with internal and external constituencies.

Supervises: N/A

Technical Skills: Experience working with large databases, including extracting, evaluating and manipulating data for reporting and analytical purposes using query tools and/or programming language (e.g., SQL). Use of higher education dataset and tools such as IPEDS and the National Student Clearinghouse. Proficiency with research design, statistical procedures and analysis. Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative research, including design, data collection, analysis and reporting.

Technology Skills: Competence with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Proficiency with statistical packages (such as SPSS) and SQL. Experience working with relational databases (Alliant uses Jenzabar CX product), extracting and manipulating data (course evaluation system and Qualtrics), and reporting tools (Alliant uses Cognos).

Physical Environment: Possible occasional travel to another Alliant location.

Must be able to attend functions off campus and work weekends/evenings as required.
