The Department of Life Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi seeks candidates for a full-time (9-month) position as Assistant or Associate, Professor of Aquaculture. Candidates should have strong broad-based experience in marine aquaculture working with diverse species. Documented interaction with the aquaculture industry, fisheries agencies and publications in the field will be essential.
Applicants will also need to demonstrate substantial involvement in aquaculture-oriented societies. Candidates must have a PhD in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture or a related field.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to high quality research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a vigorous, externally-funded research program, advise graduate and undergraduate researchers, and pursue scholarly research in support of the Fisheries and Mariculture Masters and Marine Biology PhD Programs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi provides a competitive salary and start-up package with modern research laboratories and equipment, all in a coastal location ideal for aquaculture research. The candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in his/her field of study primarily associated with mariculture and marine fisheries. Our unique location provides many opportunities for marine-related research including proximity to extensive bays and estuaries along the Gulf of Mexico. Teaching schedule may involve night, weekend, and electronic course delivery.
Qualified applicants at the Associate Professor level will need to show advanced familiarity with the aquaculture industry and development of a strong research program in the discipline. Teaching experience at a level commensurate with that of the Associate level is advised. At least five years of full-time university faculty experience including at least four years in the rank of assistant professor.
High potential for collaborative research exists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Marine Development Center in Flour Bluff, Texas, and Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Port Aransas, Texas. Along with researchers from the Department of Life Sciences, the University has a strong portfolio of marine-oriented research institutions such as the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (http://harteresearchinstitute.org), Center for Coastal Studies (http://ccs.tamucc.edu) and Conrad Blucher Institute (http://www.cbi.tamucc.edu/).
