The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine is seeking applicants for Assistant, Associate or Professor (Full Time, 12 Month, Tenure Track) in Medical Humanities and Clinical Bioethics. The School of Medicine recognizes outstanding and innovative teaching and the scholarship of medical education. The successful candidate will be expected to work with an interdisciplinary team of master educators from other basic science disciplines and clinical faculty to develop and implement educational content for medical humanities and clinical bioethics in an innovative and integrated curriculum.
Essential duties include a commitment to excellence in teaching medical students, a desire to be part of interdisciplinary collaborations, and a desire to do research in medical education for professionalism and promotion of humanism in health care.
Our curriculum in Medical Humanities and Clinical Bioethics extends throughout the first three years of the medical school curriculum. There is ongoing collaboration between non-clinical and clinical faculty and a continual effort to integrate humanities and bioethics with basic and clinical science.
A. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (philosophy, anthropology, religious studies, sociology, literary studies, etc).
B. Experience in course development for medical humanities.
C. Ability to present unequivocal evidence of effective teaching to medical students, and
D. Ability to demonstrate potential for scholarly and creative activity that would merit appointment in a biomedical department with focus on medical humanities.
